Many of us work from home now, so a power cut can stop the working day. Here is how to manage.

Be prepared

  • Keep your laptop charged whenever you are not using it.
  • Keep a charged power bank for your phone.
  • Save your work often and use cloud saving where possible.
  • Know how to use your phone as a mobile hotspot, if your mobile signal is working.

When the power goes

  • Let your manager or team know straight away.
  • Call 105 to find out how long the cut may last.
  • Switch to tasks you can do offline, like reading, planning or writing.
  • Use a head torch or searchlight if it gets dark.

Stay comfortable

Without heating, a cold home office is hard to work in. Wear layers, use gloves and keep a flask of hot drink nearby.
